Calvin had a twin brother named Alvin. After graduating from Lebanon Union High School and within a couple months of each other, the twins both married women named Margaret.
Calvin married June 6, 1943 to Margaret Jean Fairbanks.
Alvin married August 23, 1943 to Margaret C. Smith.
Shortly thereafter they were drafted into the U.S. Army they were both sent to Mississippi for Basic Training, at Camp Van Dorn. Upon completion of their training, Calvin was transferred to the 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division and Alvin was transferred to the 383rd Replacement Company in Italy and eventually to the 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division. This was the first time in their lives the twins had been separated and the last time they saw each other in this life.
On July 18th, the 35th Division entered St. Lo after fending off 12 counterattacks by German Forces. Calvin was killed in action that day, near Saint-Lo. It was D-Day plus 42.
His twin brother, Pvt Alvin Jennings was also killed in action less than 3 months later in Italy. Sadly, his brother Al knew, by then, Cal had been killed from the letters that were returned to him.
