Wading River, Nov. 8 - Flight Officer William H. Forbell Jr., former resident of this village, has been killed in action in France, according to a notification from the War Department to his father, who lives in Richmond Hill, and his wife, Mrs. June Whitson Forbell.
He was piloting a glider carrying several men and a jeep during invasion operations on June 6, and was first reported missing when his glider was found several weeks later unharmed "somewhere in France."
Born in Wading River, he attended Wading River School and was graduated from Port Jefferson High School, where he was active in sports and social affairs. He was a member of Wading River Congregational Church.
He left for overseas early this year and before D-Day was based in England. He had been awarded an Air Medal.
