Pfc. Brisendine died in the line of duty on 12-25-1944 while serving with the 262nd Infantry Regiment of the 66th Infantry Division. He was on the Belgian Liner SS Leopoldville that was being escorted by four destroyers that was carrying 2,235 soldiers for fighting for the "Bulge", and was sunk in the English Channel near Cherbourg, France by a German Submarine {U-486} under the command of Capt. Gerhard Meyer.

He is the son of Mr. Ray & Mrs. Leona {Frederick} Brisendine {d.1930} of Pekin, Illinois, and he was a 1942 graduate of Pekin H.S., and was in the Army by August of 1944, and wanted to fly, but the schools were closed. He did have an appointment to West Point, but the Army needed foot soldiers. He also leaves one brother, Stanley in the Navy.
