SISTERS LEARN HOW SOLDIER BROTHER DIED
Mrs. C. F. Namie, Jr. and Miss Betty Baker have returned from Indianola, Miss., where they went by invitation to talk to Sergeant Curtis Buchanan who has returned from the European Theatre of war after having lost his left arm in battle. Sergeant Buchanan left Fort Bragg with Sergeant W. E. Baker, Jr. who was killed in action in France July 14, and the two young men fought side-by-side in Africa, Sicily and in France. Staff Sergeant Baker died with his head in the lap of Sergeant Buchanan who was able to tell the sisters much of the life of their brother while in the army. He told them that W. E. was killed at Bonneville, France, and that he died instantly and was given burial in an American cemetery near there.
The two sisters found Sergeant Buchanan glad to talk to them, and found that he knew them immediately from pictures carried by Sergeant Baker. They say that they feel that none of us have any idea as the horrors of the war in Europe but they also feel that men such as their brother and the sergeant got many laughs out of their struggles, and that they felt a kind of glory in their efforts. While on the trip they visited Miss Evelyn Sullivan in Canton who was engaged to Sergeant Baker.
