Milton Parker, the son of William Thomas and Annie (née Parker) Weatherford, was born on August 29, 1918 in Rowan County, North Carolina. He married Catherine Rebecca Bass on December 1, 1939. He enlisted at Camp Croft, South Carolina and was assigned to LST 373. Gunners Mate Second Class Milton P. Weatherford was killed in action on June 6, 1944.

A member of the Protestant faith, GM2C Weatherford, service number 8298678, was interred at Plot H Row 7, Grave 20 in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Departement du Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France, having been awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medals.

Burlington, North Carolina Daily Times News, December 5, 1944: The Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry in action has been posthumously awarded to Gunner's Mate 2C Milton P. Weatherford, USNR, Salisbury, N.C., the Navy Department announced today.

He was killed on D-Day on the coast of France by German artillery. He was a member of a naval combat demolition team and had landed on the beach at the appointed moment. He was killed while attempting to blow a 50 yard gap in enemy emplacement obstacles.

His citation says: "his unfaltering devotion to duty in the performance of an extremely hazardous mission was in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country." He was born in Spencer, N.C. His wife is Mrs. Catherine Bass Weatherford, of 915 Ellis St., Salisbury.
