Born in Spitalfields East London 1896 at 149 Rothchilds Buildings, Thrawl Street, Spitalfields. Had ten siblings.

The son of Woolf and Rachel (Betsy) Dreezer living in 1915 at 68 Clifton Buildings, Spitalfields, East London.

Named on a WW1 Roll Of Honour Memorial Board at The East London Synagogue,Rectory Square,Stepney E1. This was relocated to Waltham Abbey Jewish Cemetery EN9 in 1990 on the closure of the Synagogue (see memorial 87674462[with thanks to G Gillon]). Joel was also included in the "British Jewry Book Of Honour" published in 1922.

Joel was private 17848 in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers 1st Battalion.Died of wounds aged 18. His military records in the "RDF's" are amongst 2 million records known as the "Burnt records W0363" that were destroyed in 1940 by enemy action during the blitz.

For information: The Royal Dublin Fusiliers sailed from Avonmouth 16 March 1915 to Alexandria, arriving at Moudhros Greece 9 April 1915. They attempted to land at Cape Helles on the Gallipoli peninsula "V" beach on 25 April 1915. Due to heavy casualties between 30/4/1915 and 19/5/1915 the RDF's and The Royal Munster Fusiliers joined to form "The Dubsters". Joel was a "Dubster" when he died.

Joining the British army was voluntary at the start of WW1 and the recruit had to be between 18 and 38. The recruit could not be sent abroad until aged 19! Joel obviously joined underage which was common with some East End Jewish boys.

Family information given states that all Joel wanted to do was join the army and was refused due to underage. This has now been confirmed.

Documents have been found that show he attempted to join the Wiltshire Regiment giving his age 2 yrs older than he actually was. Joel signed a Short Service Attestation Form at Whitehall London on 31/08/1914 and joined the Wiltshire Regiment Pvt 10839 at Devizes on 2/09/1914. He was discharged from Weymouth on 18/12/1914 after 110 days after his father wrote to the authorities on 13/11/1914 informing them of his underage.

His medical form on 29/8/1914 gives the following description:
Ht 5ft 3in : Wt 134 lbs : Complexion swarthy : Eyes lt brown: Hair dk brown.
