Nimrod was my great-granduncle

He was the son of Samuel Caple, Jr. and Nancy "Ann" Manning.

Nimrod was married a total of three times. His first wife was Rebecka TURBET who he married on October 22, 1847, in Erie County, Ohio, USA. To this union four children were born: Julia Ann Caple Barton, Thomas Frank, William Manley and Rebecka Caple. Rebecka passed away in 1856.

His second marriage was to Margaret Fry on January 22, 1857, in Marion County, Iowa, USA. To this union eight children were born: Samuel, Alice (died in infancy), Jay Daniel, D.J. Ray, Elmer, Sherman L., Arthur, and Frank Caple. Margaret passed away in 1870 at the age of 38.

His third marriage was to Caroline Mccrosky Starrett on February 2, 1871, in Jasper County, Iowa, USA. It is not believed that they had any children together.

Nimrod's parents moved to Richland County, Ohio, when he was still quite young. After he married his first wife he went to Monroe, Jasper County, Iowa. There, attracted by the reports of great wealth to be had in California, he went via wagon train to seek his fortune. He is found in the 1850 census for California on Consumers River, Eldorado County, California, USA.

About a year later he came back via the Ithmus of Panama to Iowa. He then engaged in the buying and selling of cattle and sheep and spent the most happy years of his life. In 1870 his wife Margaret died. He then wandered to Nebraska and engaged in the cattle business there. Next he went to Louisiana where he conducted an orange ranch in connection with a general store, this venture not proving a success, he went to South Dakota, where he spent the last 15 years of his life in the stock business in the Black Hills country.

In 1844 he reunited with his brothers in Indiana visiting with his son Elmer. In 1899 he went back to visit his brother Andrew to seek help with ill health and died there. I have found reference to an A. Caple of the area who was a doctor. This may have been his brother Andrew.
