KIA 27 Sept 1918 on the edges of Bourlon Woods, while advancing toward Anneux, on the first day of the attack on the German frontline, at the Canal du Nord, by Canadian forces. The Canada CEF Burial Register shows "Killed In Action. At about 8 P.M. on September 27th 1918, while with his company advancing towards Anneux, he was caught in the wire and blown to pieces by enemy shell fire."
Buried in the Anneux British Cemetery, Plot 1, Section D, Grave 13, near Cambrai, France.
Mrs. McBRIDE returned to Scotland following her husband's death and received the War Memorial Cross from the Canadian Government in June 1921.
