The third son of Wood Jones and Elizabeth Trent Archer Jones studied at the Virginia Baptist Seminary and The University of Virginia, as well as the College of William and Mary. Graduated there Valedictorian in 1845. Ordained 16 May 1849, he became the second President of Richmond College. Tiberius Jones was one of the foremost preachers of the Southern Baptist. He married 7 November 1848 Jane Chandler Reins. His second wife was Martha Ridley.
