Son of James Patterson and Jessie (nee Fergus) Anderson of 1 Longroyd Street, Mount Lawley, Western Australia. A Prefect at the Perth Modern School prior to enlisting, he had qualified to study as an accountant. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 12 January 1915 and embarked from Fremantle for overseas on 22 February 1915 per HMAT "Itonus" (A50). He arrived on Gallipoli in May 1915 and was killed during the attack on Tasmania Post, aged 19 years.
