Obituary - Mrs. Clara E. Snell Dies at Missoula. Had Been Resident of Salt Lake for Thirty Years.

Mrs. Clara E. Snell, widow of John Snell, for thirty years a resident of Salt Lake, died at Missoula, Montana, Wednesday morning following (?) of heart failure. The death occurred at the resident of Mrs. Snell's daughter, Mrs. George E.[Charles Augusta] Crawshaw.

Mrs. Snell was born in Sydney, Australia [Lewisham, Kent, England], seventy years ago, and came to the United States in 1871, settling in Utah. She was the widow of John Snell, who died September 12, 1898, in this city. Mr. Snell was a well-known contractor and had charge of the construction of the Kenyon hotel, the White house, Clift house and other familiar landmarks of Salt Lake.

Mrs. Snell was a sister of W. P. Reed [Read], for many years superintendent of the street railway system in this city. She was also a sister-in-law of O. P. Arnold, also well known in street railway circles.

The body will be shipped to the city for interment. Funeral services will be held at the residence of W. H. Weyher, 414 Fourth avenue. Mr. Weyher is a son-in-law of Mrs. Snell.

Mrs. Snell is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George E. [Charles A.] Crawshaw. The date of the funeral will be announced later.

NOTE: A restoration of the grave was done May, 1997. The monument had been broken by the large tree branches. Steel dowels were drilled into the center piece, then glued and the monument moved two feet to the east. Family members Eva May Arnold McAllister, Read Sorensen Arnold, and Sherry M. Smith arranged the restoration.
