Son of Mrs. Ethel H. Gibbs who resided in Waterville, Maine.

Robert served as a Sergeant & Right Waist Gunner on B-17G "Anoxia Queen" #42-39819, 568th Bomber Squadron, 390th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kennebec County, Maine prior to the war. S/Sgt Alec Gwazdosky (below) was also from Kennebec County.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 4, 1942 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of paper and pulp and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was hit by German flak and crashed about 12 miles West of Ostend Harbor, Belgium in the North Sea during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
