He resided in South Carolina prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 17, 1942 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Laboratory technician and/or assistant and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was hit by German aircraft and crashed into the Baltic Sea, near Lolland, Denmark during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
