Pfc Joe D Benedetto was seriously wounded when he crawled back to his MG to complete its destruction near Schönberg, Belgium.

On his way to a POW camp, he was later killed on Christmas Eve 1944, during a bombing raid of the RAF at Gerolstein, Germany.
