RECORDS FOUND OF SGT. HEHL: DIED AT NANTES, FRANCE, DAY AFTER PLANE CRASH
Word has been received from army authorities in Europe by Mrs. Winifred Hehl, 6812 Gallia st, Sciotoville, removing uncertainties about the death of her son, Sgt. Ralph V. Hehl, almost two years ago in the line of duty.
Mrs. Hehl was informed that translation of several volumes of captured German records by the army air forces furnished new knowledge of the circumstances of her son's death.
According to these records, Sgt. Hehl died July 20, 1944, in a navy hospital in Nantes, France. Death resulted from injuries suffered when his aircraft crashed at Nantes the previous day.
Burial was made in Soldiers' cemetery at Nantes, but the body subsequently was removed to St. James cemetery, between Reims and Avranches.
Sgt. Hehl, a son of Mrs. Hehl and the late Arthur Hehl of Sciotoville, was a bombardier on a B-26 based in England at the time of his last flight. He attended Portsmouth East High school.
Besides the mother, he leaves a brother, William, in Chicago and a grandmother, Mrs. Warren T. Price, 6606 Gallia st, Sciotoville.
