His mother is a field supervisor for a social work agency. Charles is a poultry man for a chicken farm.

The government telegram stated that corrected reports listed Private Cobbey as killed in action, and expressed regret at the lapse in time since he was reported missing in August. Private Cobbey graduated from Bethany high school and attended the college of agriculture at the University of Nebraska. He joined the army more than three years ago.
