Son of Carl J. Bredesen who resided in Two Harbors, Minnesota.

Robert served as a Sergeant & Waist Gunner on B-17 #42-38143, 49th Bomber Squadron, 2nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Wayne County, Michigan prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 24, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Machinist and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" when his B-17, while on a mission, collided with B-17 #42-31823 and crashed into the Adriatic Sea off Italy during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
