2nd Lt Ferdinand Kjar was a Navigator in the 8th Air Force, 786th Bomber Squadron, 466th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was KIA when the control cables snapped and the aircraft "Pale Ale" went into a spin, crashed and exploded in Dergneau, Belgium. There is a memorial erected at the site of the crash.
