Pvt Bert Bailey lived with his aunt, Mrs. Albert Nestelle for two and one-half years before his induction in July, 1942. He landed in Normandy on D-day and was hit between the eyes with shrapnel. He returned to duty, and was killed in the Holland invasion.

He was a private with the 101st Airborne Division when he was Killed in Action near Zetten, Holland.

He had been overseas since September, 1943. After his induction from Davenport, Neb., his home town, he trained at Camp Roberts, Cal., and Fort Benning, Ga. While living in Battle Creek he worked on construction at Kellogg Field.
