Private Herman Addleson served in the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles".

He was Killed in Action on/during D-Day near Hill 30 (near Manhoir Donville) Carentan, France, on June 6, 1944 and he is honored with a Purple Heart.

Hall of Fame Boston Red Sox Outfielder Ted Williams paid for Herman to have his cleft palate repaired, changing his status from 4F to 1A, thereby getting him into the service.
