Lynnford LaMar Smith was the third child of Casper 'Cap' Joshua Smith and Ruth Cleveland Morrison.

In 1943, while serving in the United States Armed Forces during World War II, he was shot down at Nijmagen, Netherlands and fell into the Zuyderzee. His body was never recovered.

There is a marker for Lynnford on the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont, Ohio.
