Paul Lucyk was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts to Andrew Lucyk, and Elizabeth Panchut Lucyk, Russian immigrants that came to the US in 1914.

Paul served as a Technical Sergeant, 509th Bomber Squadron, 351st Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He was a passenger on B-17G #44-8639, 509th Bomber Squadron, 351st Bomber Group, Heavy.

He resided in Essex County, Massachusetts prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 11, 1942 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of textiles and also as Single, without dependents.

This B-17 was returning to the United States following the conclusion of hostilities in Europe. They were flying from Polebrook in Northamptonshire to the RAF Valley Airfield on Anglesey before the final leg back to the United States.

The plane clipped high ground on a ridgeside, then skidded along the mountainside, and burst into flames.

Paul died in this crash as one of twenty ( ten crew & ten passengers ) during the war.

He had previously been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

TSGT Lucyk was survived by his mother, and sisters Fannie and Nellie Lucyk.
