ORANGE SOLDIER DEAD; ANOTHER IS MISSING
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ellis, of lower Orange County, have been informed by the War Department of the death in action in France of their son, Technician Russell K. "Toots" Ellis. Ellis served in a tank ordnance company. He had previously been reported missing.

Another Orange County soldier, Pfc. Charles F. Crasty, of Nasons, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Crasty, has been reported missing in action in Italy since June 3.

Per bobbittville.com/526ordnance.htm website, Ellis was one of 27 enlisted men who perished at sea when their LST was struck by a torpedo believed to have been launched by a German E-Boat.

Suggested edit: T/5 Russell Kenneth Ellis was raised in the Lahore section of Orange County and went to Fork Union Military Academy. In less than two years after enlisting in the army he was in thick of the D-Day landings on 9 June 1944 when his LST was hit and sunk by a German torpedo boat.
