Lieutenant Colonel Norman F. Baessell was a passenger on a plane with famed big band leader Glenn Miller when it disappeared over the English Channel. On December 15, 1944, Miller and Baessell boarded a Noordwyn "Norseman" airplane at the airport at Twinwood Farm, near Bedford, London, England, to fly to Paris, France, where Miller was to perform. The plane was piloted by Flight Officer John R.S. Morgan. Shortly after their departure the plane disappeared and was never heard from again. Baessell was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Air Forces Headquarters Squadron, VIII Air Service Command. Service # O-905387. He entered the Service from the District of Columbia.
