Richard Burr Prentiss was born 2 February 1916,
in Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont, the
son of Dr. Orlow Frederick Prentiss and Marjorie
B. (nee Elms) Prentiss. He had an older brother,
Robert; and a younger sister. Barbara.

He graduated from High School in Burlington, and
attended Green Mountain State College in Poultney,
Vermont. He then attended Syracuse University
in Syracuse, New York, and enlisted in the U.S.
Army Air Corps, as an aviation cadet, on 04
September 1941. He graduated from Syracuse
University, in June of 1942.

He was sent for training and became a pilot of
A20 Havoc Light Bomber aircraft. He was
assigned to the 9th Air Force; 416th Bomb
Group; 668th Bomb Squadron.

at Losheim, Germany, Airplane hit by enemy
anti-aircraft fire (FLAK); Airplane was seen
spinning straight down to the ground with
the left wing shot off; one parachute seen.
Plane crashed before reaching the target,
near Losheim, Germany. All 4 crew members
were Killed In Action.

Richard Burr Prentiss was born 2 February 1916,
in Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont, the
