Konrad and Marie Bechtel fostered Robert Anderson (Fred's Father) after his parent's Samuel and Emma Anderson died soon after his (Fred's Father) birth in 1864. Robert followed Konrad's trade of saddlery under the name of Betchel he married Elisabeth Dorothea Kasten and this union produced 10 children one of which was Fritz Kasten Bechtel who later changed his name to Fred Anderson prior to enlistment.
