Son of Thomas and Mary Martin of Strahan, Tasmania. A labourer with previous service in the 91st Militia Battalion prior to enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force on 13 January 1916. He embarked for overseas with the 16th Reinforcements of the 12th Battalion from Melbourne on 29 March 1916 aboard RMS Orontes. Following further training in Egypt, he joined the 12th Battalion in France and later transferred to the 52nd Battalion. He was killed in action near Flers, France, aged 20 years.
