Harold Dorse, the son of Augustus Albert and Sarah Elizabeth Dorse, of Cessnock, New South Wales. was 24 years old when the call to duty saw him enlist in the Australian Infantry Forces on 27 May 1940 at Paddington, New South Wales, Australia.
NX21813, Pte Harold Dorse of 2/30 Australian Infantry Battalion, was taken P.O.W. at the Fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942,and died in that capacity while slaving on the Thai-Burma Railway.
"They went with song to the battle they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eyesteady and aglo
They were staunch to the end and against odds uncounted,
The fell with their faces to the foe,
They shall not grow old, As we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them
Lest We Forget."
