William served as a Flight Officer and Navigator on B-29-A #42-93876, 881st Bomber Squadron, 500th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in San Francisco County, California prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 1, 1942 in San Francisco, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Retail manager and also as Single, without dependents.

On 8 February 1944, he graduated from Bombardier Training Class 44-02 at Roswell Army Air Field, New Mexico. Underwent B-29 aircraft transition and combat crew training at Walker Army Airfield, Kansas. In September 1944, deployed to the Central Pacific Theatre of Operations and was assigned to 20th Air Force, XXI Bomber Command, 73rd Bomb Wing, 500th Bombardment Group (Very Heavy), 881st Bomb Squadron stationed at Isely Field on Saipan in the Mariana Islands.

B-29 #42-93876 took off, with a crew of 11, from Saipan on a bombing mission over the Nakajima aircraft plant, Ota, Japan. B-29 #42-93876 then left the mission and tried to return to base and apparently crashed into the sea prior to reaching base for an unknown reason. The entire crew was lost.
