16th BOMBARDMENT GROUP (VH), (315 BOMBARDMENT WING (VH)), 20TH AIR FORCE

Mission No.6, to Petroleum Center at Kawasaki on 12-13 July, 1945:
Aircraft B-29B, 42-63603 Lost at Sea MACR # 15373 Crew 28: Bailed out into the Philippine Sea, North of Rota Island, Northern Mariana Islands, because of three runaway propellers shortly after take-off. Number one propeller began to run away and would not respond to the feathering button. When Lt Berry attempted to turn to head back for base, he encountered similar trouble with Number three and four propellers.
The crew was given the order to bail out but only three survived and were rescued.

Missing/Killed include 1stLT K. Warren Rollins, Navigator
7 of the 10 member crew were Killed in Action

enlistment date: 3 April 1942

A memorial plaque honoring K. Warren Rollins' service is also on the fireplace at the Delta Chi Fraternity house, 325 Welch Ave (originally 405 Hayward Ave), Ames, Iowa.

K. Warren Rollins' name is also engraved on the World War II wall in the Gold Star Hall, entrance to the Iowa State Memorial Union, Ames, Iowa.


Warren was a brother of Delta Chi Fraternity, Iowa State Chapter at Iowa State College (University) in Ames, Iowa. Class of 1941
