John, who resided in Ellendale, Delaware, served as a Corporal, 417th Infantry Regiment, 76th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on December 20, 1943 in Camden, New Jersey. He was noted as being from Sussex County, Delaware, employed as a Driver and also as being Married.

He was "Killed In Action" in Germany.

He had served in the Army for one year and two months at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart.

Son of Lemuel Johnson and Elizabeth Roach Johnson.

Husband of Elvira Legates Johnson.

The military made the decision to have "New Jersey" on is headstone instead of "Delaware", his home state. Possibly due to his wife being from New Jersey....
