Son of William Allen-Sr & wife Nancy Allen. Moved to Gilmer Co, GA from Rabun Co, GA before the special 1834 census. His father reportedly died in Rabun Co around 1830. By 1840, his mother & four brothers were also in Gilmer Co. By 1850, his mother had presumably died; no further information found on one brother; two brothers died before 1850; another brother was not found in 1850 census, but died 1856-1860 in Gilmer Co.

Due to the deterioration of original tombstones for William Allen & his second wife, a great-grandson had "replacements" erected in 2012 & left the originals in place (they have been cleaned). He also had a memorial stone erected for his great-grandmother, Patience Marie Dickerson Allen, the first wife of William Allen, Jr.

William & first wife, Patience Dickerson, had ten children. He & second wife, Charity Watkins, had seven children.
