Lieutenant Charles Allister Ritcey 1944

Lunenburg, June 2-

The home of Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Ritcey was saddened this morning with the news that their youngest son, Lieut. Charles Allister Ritcey had been killed in action in Italy, May 27.

Charles Ritcey was born at Lunenburg nearly 28 years ago, and after graduating from Lunenburg County Academy, served an apprenticeship with W.R. Brock and Company, Halifax and Montreal, for four years, after which he was sent out on the road as one of their travellers. He enlisted in July, 1941, receiving his training at Brockville. In October, 1942, he went overseas, leaving his young wife, formerly Miss Marion Power, at Yarmouth, where she has since resided.

Charles Ritcey was recognized as one of the fine young men of his native town. The entire community mourns with his parents, brothers, and sisters. Besides his parents and young widow, there survive two brothers, Cpl. Eugene Ritcey, R.C.A., who arrived home this evening to be with his parents in their deep sorrow, and Fenwick, Hamilton, Ontario; also three sisters, Marguerite, nurse in training at the Women's General Hospital, Montreal; Evelyn, on the clerical staff of the Lunenburg Foundry Company Limited, and Phyllis, in high school.
