Son of Malcolm and Elizabeth McAulay of Waverley, N.S.W. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 22 September 1915 and embarked for overseas with the 13th Reinforcements of the 1st Battalion on 20 December 1915 per HMAT "Aeneas" (A60). He transferred to the 54th Battalion in Egypt. He was killed in action France, aged 29 years.
