Sam Seay, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Brown Seay was born and raised in Baird, Texas. He was living in El Paso in 1917 when he was called in the first draft. He was sent to Camp Travis and assigned to the Motor Truck Company No. 411. After four months, he was commissioned as First Lieutenant of his company and was sent to Camp Jackson, Florida for training, Lieut. Seay acting captain. The company went overseas on April 1918. At the time, Lieut. Seay was called to service, he signed up with the government as a civiilian employee, to establish a motor shop in Paris. He had been in that branch of the service since the Pershing Expedition in Mexico. Lieut. Seay died of bronchial pneumonia in a hospital at Chateau-Thierry, France.
