Mrs. Lillie May Bartlett, widow of the late Seth Bartlett, passed away at the home, 302 East street last night at 1:30 o’clock after a several weeks’ illness with smallpox at the age of fifty-six years. The body was taken to the Adams and Hesser Mortuary and prepared for burial. A duather, Miss Beth Bartlett, died with the same dread disease several weeks ago. Two sons, Capt. Tom Bartlett of Key West, Florida, and Earl Bartlett of this city, are left to mourn the loss of their mother. Private burial was made in the family lot at Highland [actually in the original Iola Cemetery and not Highland] this afternoon. The sons requested a public memorial to be held at the funeral hour but after learning the public’s opinon [sic] toward such an assembly they asked the First Reader in the First Church of Christ Scientist, Mrs. Sadie Adams, to conduct the same services they would use at the funeral at her home, 214 East Jackson avenue, at 4:30 this afternoon, the hour of burial.
