When Melba Martin was born on August 24, 1929, in Uvalda, Georgia, her father, Melvin Morgan Martin, was 39, and her mother, Clarice McClelland, was 29. She married Carter McRae Stout on February 3, 1952, in her hometown. They had two children during their marriage. She died on January 17, 2003, in LaGrange, Georgia, at the age of 73, and was buried in Macon, Georgia In Riverside Cemtery.

Melba Martin Stout -MACON - Melba Martin Stout of 730 Captain Kell Drive died January 17, 2003 at age 73. A native of Uvalda, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Melvin M. and Clarice M. Martin. - Mrs. Stout graduated from Brewton Parker Institute in Mount Vernon, GA and attended Georgia State College for Women, now Valdosta State University. Educated as a teacher, Mrs. Stout taught in Patterson, Swainsboro and Eastman prior to her marriage. Following marriage, she taught in McRae while her husband served in the U. S. Army in Korea. She subsequently served as a teacher's aide in Athens and Macon. She has resided in Macon since 1954 except for 1961-1970 when she and her family lived in Athens. Mrs. Stout was predeceased by a brother, Ralph C. Martin. -She was an active member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, the Joy Sunday School Class and the Esther Circle. For many years she served as a faithful volunteer for Macon Outreach at Mulberry, helping to serve the needs of the less fortunate. -She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Carter McRae Stout; Sons and daughters-in-law, Robert McRae Stout and Cathy Stout of LaGrange, GA and Larry Martin Stout and Teresa Lynn Stout of Tifton, GA; Grandchildren, Amanda Lorraine Stout, Wade McRae Stout, and Angela Clara Stout, all of LaGrange, and Victoria Lynne Stout and Robert Martin Stout, both of Tifton; Sisters and brothers-in-law, Agnes Martin Heule and Franklin Heule of Pensacola, FL and Maxine Martin Pound and Thomas G. Pound of Monticello, GA; Sisters-in-law, Christine Martin Lowe of Uvalda, GA and Ann Reid Stout of Roswell, GA. -Funeral services will be at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 19, 2003 at 3:00PM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The Reverend M. Creede Hinshaw and Dr. William H. Hurdle will officiate. -The family may be contacted at the residence and will greet friends at Hart's Mortuary on Saturday, January 18, 2003 from 4:00PM until 6:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Perpetual Endowment Fund of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, 719 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201. -Hart's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
