Death of Mrs. Cynthia Brister Sistrunk

Funeral services were held at the Tilton Methodist Church, south of this place, Tuesday morning for Mrs. Cynthia Ivory Sistrunk, age 94 years and 6 months, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. S. C. Calhoun, in the Tilton community, following a long illness. Her pastor, Rev. James M. Lewis, of this place, conducted the services with Rev. J. W. Brand assisting. Interment was made in the Tilton Church cemetery with the Walden Funeral Association of Prentiss in charge.

Mrs. Sistrunk was before her marriage in 1865 to Mr. Laney Sistrunk, Miss Cynthia Ivory Brister, member of a prominent South Mississippi family. In early life she united with the Baptist Church, but when the Tilton Methodist Church was organized in about 1870, she and her husband were among charter members of this church and for years active members. Mr. Sistrunk died in 1905.

Five of seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Sistrunk survive. These are: Mrs. J. A. Robertson, Gloster; Mrs. H. E. Pevey, Harrisville; Mrs. Lula Barnett, Jayess; Mrs. J. A. Calhoun and Mrs. S. C. Calhoun, Tilton. For the past 25 years, Mrs. Sistrunk has lived in the home of Mrs. S. C. Calhoun.

Among other surviving relatives are one brother, B. E. Brister, Bogue Chitto; 37 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sistrunk was a great aunt of Mrs. Mable Brister, a member of the Monticello School Facility. Mrs. Sistrunk was reared in Lincoln County, moving to Lawrence County soon after her marriage.
