Born June 2, 1914, in Nevada Township, Livingston County, to Louis Daniel and Anna Elizabeth Abrey Duay, he married Marian Snyder on July 24, 1950, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Kurt (Earlene) Bendschneider of DeKalb; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Margurete Lebo of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
He farmed in Streator until 1970. He then worked as a custodian for District 86 at Woodrow Wilson School in East Peoria, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Golden Agers at Leisure Acres.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 983 in East Peoria.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Graveside services will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria
