"Lucky was killed on June 2, 1944. My father was the pilot of the B-24 in which he died. It ditched in the Adriatic Sea after being hit by anti-aircraft munitions over Klug, Romania. When my father looked to his right and down, he saw Lucky lying between him and the co-pilot, Lt. William Hogan. When he saw Lucky he yelled at him to "get to the back of the plane." Lucky said, "I'm not leaving. I want to be close to you." When the plane hit the water the gun turret above Lucky fell on him and he was killed instantly and the plane sunk. It is very unlikely Lucky is buried in Italy. This is the report received from my father, who lived it."
