William Henry Jackson
William Henry Jackson was born in Zanesville, Ohio, August 8, 1852 and died at the home of his son, Cecil at Edgar, Nebraska, January 14, 1935 at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 6 days.
He came to Nebraska in 1872 and was one of the pioneers of Clay County.
On August 2, 1873, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Johnston at Carlinville, Illinois and moved to Clay County where he resided the remainder of his life. Seven children were born to this union, five of whom survive him, one son and four daughters. His wife and two sons preceded him in death.
He worked for Gardner Bros. in the grocery business for eleven years, after which he purchased the business and was sole owner until 1928 when he sold it to his son and assisted him until a few weeks before he died, as his illness was of short duration.
During his last few days he told his loved ones that his time had come and that he was ready to go.
He leaves to mourn one son and four daughters, Cecil and Mrs. W. L. Hochritner of Edgar, Nebr.; Mrs. Mabel Loettrle and Mrs. Eula Slater of Lincoln, Nebr.; and Mrs. S. L. Pratt of Superior, Nebr.; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Jane Crosky of Black Foot, Idaho, and six grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday, January 15 at 2:30 p.m. Rev T. S. Hughes officiated and the Presbyterian male quartet furnished the music. The pallbearers were Clark Kinnison, Clarence Adams, Charles Merrill, Ralph Sconce, Clyde Beach and Earnest Jacox.
Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
