Former Resident Dies In Gary
John Burke, 54, a native of Elwood and long-time resident here died about 6:30 a.m. today at Methodist hospital, Gary. He had resided in Hobart for a number of years and had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Burke was born here Nov. 25, 1899. the son of Frank and Rose Burke. He was a mill worker here and moved to Gary after the Tin Plate closed down. Survivors include one son, John, of Hobart; three sisters, Mrs. Joe Metz of Kokomo, Margaret Ballard of Elwood and Mrs. E. O. Merritt cf Chicago; three brothers; Frank of Elwood, James and Thomas, both of Gary, and one grandchild. The body will be returned to the Robert L. Jackley funeral home, Friday and funeral services will probably be held Saturday morning at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Final arrangements will be announced later.
