Sheldon was married to Phyllis Furman, with whom he had two daugthers, Pamela and Lesley. He has one grandson, Phillip. Sheldon was a veteran of World War 2 and was a loyal and caring friend. Though from Minneapolis, he spent several of his younger years (after the war) working in New York City, before moving his family back home to Minnesota.
Sheldon was diagnosed in 1988 with pancreatic cancer and died the following year. He was 68 years old. He was proceeded in death by his wife Phyllis.
