Ludwig Peterson Dies At His Home in Navarino
Monday February 22nd, our neighborhood received the sad news that Ludwig L. Peteson had passed away to the Better Land that morning at 4:30 o'clock. Mr. Peterson had been failing the last years. For about a week he was sick with bronchitis. Dr. DeCock of Angelica was called, and for a day he seemed to gain, but then he became worse. Ludwig Peterson as born at Nass Hedenmarken, Norway Oct. 6, 1851 of parents Peder and Eline Larson. In 1861 he immigrated to this country, while his parents, brothers and sisters came four years later. He first stayed at Winchester, Wis., and then came to Navarino, where he married Karoline Christianson also of Navarino. Mrs. Peterson died Jan. 17, 1897. They were blessed with seven children who are all living except one. they are: Mrs. Dina Kittleson, Mrs. Palma Larson, Mrs. Clara Mork, Mr. Paul Peterson, Mrs.Helga Danialson and Mrs. E. Hanson of whom all are living in Navarino except Mrs. Palma Larson who lives at Waupaca, Wis., so leaves to mourn his dear aged mother, three sisters, brothers, also a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a large host of friends. He was town clerk for 34 years and deacon of the N.L. church for 35 years, also clerk for the co-operative creamery a number of years.
The funeral took place Thursday afternoon at one o'clock at the house, Rev. Bongsto of Green Bay officiated. From there the remains were taken to the Norwegian Lutheran church followed by a large host of relatives and friends. The church was filled to the very last bench which proves that he was loved and honored by many of his country-men. The pall-bearers were Mr. Lewie Knutson, Mr. Anton Johnson, Mr. Elert Stenberg, Mr. Olson, Mr. Mons Boreson, Mr. Westgor. He was laid to rest in the Norweigan Lutheran Cemetery.
