She was born in Coschaket on Nov. 20, 1927. Isabel married Timothy Charlie in 1942, and together they had two children whom she loved so very deeply. Isabel babysat for the teachers in Minto and also worked as a cook for the Minto School. She was an active member of the community as a Sunday school teacher, 4-H club teacher assistant, mentor, avid beader and skin sewer, dog musher and foster mother. She was an all-around mother, auntie and grandma. To keep the Athabascan language alive, she was a bilingual instructor teaching the Athabascan language. Isabel worked at the Fairbanks Alano Club.
Isabel took great pride and joy in each of her grandchildren and when her grandson began playing youth baseball, she volunteered with Fairbanks Youth Baseball.
Isabel was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Charlie; daughter, Marie Roberts; grandson, Robbie Ray Charlie; granddaughters, Robin and Kimberly Kay Charlie; great-grandson, Joel; and parents, Jennie and Chief Matthew.
She is survived by her son, Fabian Charlie; grandchildren, Lawrence J. "Larry" Roberts of Anchorage, Michelle (Roberts) and Robert Beetus of Fairbanks, Timothy "Ray" Roberts of Fairbanks and Michael and Lucy Roberts of Fairbanks; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Donovan, Lauren, Erick, Aurora, Jonathan, Deshawn, Daylin Roberts and Kristen Charlie; the Jimmie family of Minto; sister Agnes Mayo and family; cousins, Steve and Simon Matthew and family; and numerous relatives of Minto, Fairbanks, Nenana and Stevens Village.
A visitation and memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 5, at noon at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. The final service and burial will be in Minto at
1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, followed by a potlatch at the Minto Community Hall.
