A Masonic funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Norton Mortuary for Lester M. Talkington, 74, who died Saturday in a Turlock hospital after a long illness. Burial will be in Turlock Memorial Park.

A native of Kansas, he had lived in Turlock since 1914.

He was a member and past pastor of Turlock Masonic Lodge 395; past patron of Wisteria Chapter 296, Order of the Eastern Star of Turlock, and was a 32nd-Degree member of the Stockton Scottish Rite. He was a retired captain of the Turlock Volunteer Fire Department; a former director of Community Hospital, a former director of the Turlock Chamber of Commerce and was a charter member of the Evening Lions Club and the Turlock Pleasure Seekers Travel Group. Until his retirement in 1973, he had owned an appliance store.

He leaves his wife, Gladys; a daughter, Doris Gerloff of Sonora; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
