A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 1:30p.m.; Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation an hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Evelyn Moes, 97, was born October 6, 1919, three miles West of Pella, the daughter of Edward and Sarah (Van Wyngarden) De Vries. She attended the Silver Grove Country School.
On November 22, 1940, Evelyn was united in marriage to Ralph Moes in Pella, and moved to Sully. To this union three daughters were born: Eileen Heaberlin Cron, Greta Schnathorst, and Sheila Veenendaal Kearns. Moving to Newton in 1971, they were members of the Newton Christian Reformed Church. Evelyn was a homemaker all her life and will be greatly missed. She worked with her husband in the office, keeping the books for Ralph in their propane gas business. She enjoyed crocheting, needle tatting, gospel music, helping in the Newton Christian School library, singing, and attending gospel concerts.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Eileen (Ronald “Lee”) Cron of Newton; Greta (Dennis) Schnathorst of Newton ; her six grandsons: Todd (Kelly Kiamis) Heaberlin, Jeremy (Tiffani) Heaberlin, Ryan Schnathorst, Brad Schnathorst, Jody (Alix O’Gorman) Veenendaal and Nicholas (Amanda Lynam) Kearns; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Irene Moes of Pella; numerous nieces and nephews; special family friend Jerry Chandler Sr.; and many good neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph on December 28, 1989; daughter Sheila Kearns on April 30, 1994; a sister Margaret Bogaards; and two brothers: Louis De Vries and Marion De Vries.
