Steelworker

Clarence was a steelworker in Chicago before moving to Florida. His paents were Levi Silas HUFFORD and Eleanor "Nellie" DRISCOLL. When Clarence was almost seven years old, his mother died. When Clarence was nine years old, Clarence's father and older brother died by drowning in a boating accident.

Clarence first married Theresa LOCKWOOD (aka Theresa LOONSFOOT). With Theresa, Clarence had three children: Clarence Jr. (1933-2001), Dorothy (1934-1972), and Dolores, (1936-1936). (A fourth child was born during the marriage, but DNA proves that was not Clarence's child.) The marriage ended in divorce, and Clarence secondly married Mary E. FITZPATRICK. With Mary, Clarence had five children: Daniel (1950-1988), William J. (1954–1991), a son born in 1946, a daughter born in 1947, and a daughter born in 1948.

Clarence is listed on page 177 of the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY.

DNA has come into play in many instances regarding Clarence's descendants:
First, as a result of autosomal DNA, it was learned that a daughter born to Clarence's first wife during their marriage was not fathered by Clarence. That child was born in December 1937. It is not known who fathered her, but she was not fathered by Clarence.
Second, autosomal DNA proved that Clarence's daughter Dorothy (b. 1934) birthed a daughter in May 1953. That child was placed for adoption as an infant.
Third, in February 2023, autosomal DNA proved that Clarence and Mary Ellen's son born in 1946 fathered a daughter who was born in 1965. Previous to February 2023, that son of Clarence did not know that he had fathered the daughter.
Fourth, autosomal DNA proved Clarence and Mary Ellen's son born in 1946 to be the father of a woman born in 1974. Tragically and bizarrely, a court-arranged paternity test done by Roche Labs (previous to 1995) had incorrectly said that the man could not be the child's father. Autosomal DNA made paternity clear. Clarence's son had been involved in that daughter's life. However, after the incorrect DNA test results, he believed that he was not her father until another DNA test in April 2020 proved that the man IS the father.
Fifth, autosomal DNA proved Clarence's daughter born in 1947 to be the mother of a woman born in 1967. The child was placed for adoption as an infant.
Sixth, autosomal DNA proved Clarence's daughter born in 1947 to be the mother of a woman born in 1968. The child was raised by her father, and the child had no knowledge of her mother's biological family.
Seventh, DNA proved that a woman born in 1970 was fathered by Clarence's son William (who was born in 1954).
Eighth, autosomal DNA and Y-DNA proved that Clarence's son William fathered a son who was born in 1977. William died in 1991. It was January 2019 when William's son learned the name of his biological father.
Ninth, in December 2023, autosomal DNA proved that Clarence's son William fathered a daughter who was born in 1980; William's daughter was placed in foster care at birth; later, she was adopted by the foster parents. Previous to December 2023, that woman was not known to the family.
