"The LaFayette Sun" - May 25, 1921:

Mr. J. H. Coker.

The subject of this sketch, Mr. James Hurston Coker, was born in Tallapoosa County November 3, 1878, and came to Chambers County when a young man. He was married to Miss Ida Lett, July 15, 1906. To this union were born five children - two girls and three boys, one having died when a small child. The family moved to Miami, Fla., in 1919, where Mr. Coker's health gradually gave way. He went to Comfort, Texas, the first of April 1921, hoping to regain his health, but alas! the death angel came on April 20th and bore his sweet spirit away. The remains were brought back here for interment and placed in Macedonia Cemetery, Rev. W. D. Hubbard officiating, and the Masons pronouncing the last sad rites. The services were attended by a host of relatives and friends, who will sorely miss him, for he was loved by all who knew him.
Mr. Coker was not a member of any church, but he had high ideals of right and tried to live up to them, and we will not sit in judgment, but will leave him with a just God, who looks not on the outward appearance but on the heart. Peace to his ashes.

Written by one who loved him.

- Mrs. E. C. F.
