Bertha Mitchell, 90, of Plattsburg, MO, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010. Funeral service 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 2, Hixon-Klein Funeral Home, Gower, MO. Visitation 1-2 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Plattsburg, MO.

Bertha Mitchell, 90, of Plattsburg, MO, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010 at a nursing home in St. Joseph.

She was born on December 11, 1919 to James Allen and Nancy Josephine (Mitchell) Maddox in rural Gower, MO where she grew up and attended school.

Bertha was united in marriage to George E. Mitchell. After their marriage they lived in various places in Missouri and settled in Plattsburg where they made their home. Her husband, George passed away in 1996.

She worked numerous jobs, the last one being Mead Products in St. Joseph where she retired.

Bertha was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Plattsburg.

Bertha was a hard worker, she never knew what it was like to just sit and relax. She loved making yard ornaments, doing upholstering, and making small furniture. She wasn‘t afraid to use power tools. Bertha was a kind, caring, loving person who would help anyone. She was truly a great lady.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, John Mitchell; sisters, Helen Colley, Alice Aitkens, Louise Danner, and Ruth Veraguth; brothers, James A. Maddox, Lowell L. Maddox and William A. Maddox; and granddaughters, Cindy and Chrissy.

Bertha is survived by her children, Ralph Mitchell and wife, Myra, Joe Mitchell and wife, Linda, Larry Mitchell and wife, Pauline and Georgetta Pickinpaugh; sixteen grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; sister Geraldine Leach; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 2nd at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home Gower with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Burial: Greenlawn Cemetery, Plattsburg, MO
